TransCo officials and employees made the celebration of the corporation’s 9th Anniversary Week (June 21-25, 2010) more memorable when they brought food and gift packs filled with medical supplies and basic necessities to poor children confined at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). Led by Vice Presidents Generoso Senal and Melinda Nuique, the TransCo delegation trooped to the state hospital’s pediatric wards and emergency room and personally distributed the gift packs to about a hundred children patients. The gift packs contained bottled water, bath soap, shampoo, cotton balls, diapers, sanitary napkins, alcohol, toys and even story books. Relatives of the children were also treated to snacks.
TransCo President Moslemen T. Macarambon said the outreach activity is part of the corporation’s corporate social responsibility program for the less privileged members of society. “The celebration of our Anniversary Week becomes more meaningful and memorable when we include a social dimension to it. We’d like to share our blessings and bring hope and happiness to poor people and their sick children,” he said. The children patients at the visited wards are aged 0-18 years old and afflicted mostly with hydrocephalus, a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cavities of the brain. The other children have been diagnosed as suffering from meningitis, tuberculosis, leukemia, and cancer.
TransCo also donated 40 boxes of syringes to PGH supplement the stocks in the state hospital’s children’s ward. Vice President Nuique said the donations were made possible through the financial support of the TransCo Ladies Foundation and the proceeds from the Anniversary Bingo for a Cause. Dra. Liezel Domingo, chief resident of the UP-PGH Pediatrics Division, expressed gratitude to TransCo for the syringe donation. In her acknowledgment letter, she said TransCo’s help will translate to the faster recovery of patients and the delivery of better quality of care for the Filipino children in the hospital.
